Phlebotomy?

April 13th, 2012

I’ve considered going into the medical field plenty of times. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go out there and help save the lives of people who need help the most? Being a doctor is one of society’s most noble practices and anyone with the right skills and determination would do society good by pursuing a career in medicine. Not all careers in medicine are the typical ones you might think of though–surgeon, psychiatrist, general practitioner, etc. There are some more specific fields in medicine that are unlike any of these others in that they follow their own set of guidelines and don’t necessarily follow the same schools of thought as the more traditional practices.

For example, phlebotomy stems from the ancient art of bloodletting and is actually in wide practice today. It’s not something that your average medical student will pursue coming out of college, but there are many individuals who believe that practices like phlebotomy are just as instrumental in fixing someone’s health as a heart surgeon or a cardiologist. There are even phlebotomy training courses out there designed specifically for people interested in pursuing a career in this unique field.
